2018 Guidelines for International Students Taking the Entrance Examination

2. Application Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. (1) Those students having foreign citizenship who have completed 11 years of formal education abroad, or those who are expected to do so by the end of March 2018. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age on the date of enrollment.
  2. (2) Those who have passed the level N1 (previous known as "level 1") of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test conducted by the Japan Foundation or the Japan Educational Exchanges and Services, or those who scored 230 points or higher (Japanese) and 30 points or higher (written questions) on the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students conducted by the Japan Student Services Organization.
  3. (3) Those who can acquire after enrollment a "student visa" as stipulated by the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act.
  4. (4) Those capable of paying academic fees from enrollment to graduation.
  5. (5) Those having guarantors that reside in Japan.
    * For the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students to be considered it must have been conducted in 2016 (June or November) or 2017 (June).

3. Application Period

November 13 (Monday) to November 28 (Tuesday), 2017 (forms must be recieved no later than this date)

December 2 (Saturday), 2017

5. Examination Subjects and Durations

Examination Subjects Duration
Essay (Japanese) 60 minutes
Interview (individual) Approx. 15 minutes

* The interview is conducted in Japanese.

December 8 (Friday), 2017

8. Enrollment Period

December 11 (Monday) to December 25 (Monday), 2017 (forms must be recieved no later than this date)

9. Other Information

  1. Application materials
    • Admission application form (university form)
    • Notification of Guarantor's Japanese Residency (university form)
    • A graduation diploma or letter from the school indicating an expectation of graduation, and certified transcripts
    • Health report
    • A certified copy of Alien Registration (the certificate of status of residence and visa length)
    • A passport copy
    • A copy of the examination slip for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test or the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students, or a copy of the notification of the result

  2. Admission Procedures
    • Other than the necessary certificates issued by the university, in principle, immigration procedures are the responsibility of each student.
