2023 Guidelines for Taking the Selection Examination for Fall Semester Enrollment in the Second Part of the Doctoral Degree Program

3. Application Criteria

Selection of International Students

Those students having foreign citizenship and sufficient Japanese language proficiency to attend a course in the graduate school, and those meeting any of the following conditions:

  1. (1) Those who have earned a master's degree abroad, or those who are expected to do so by the end of September 2023.
  2. (2) Those who have earned a master's degree in Japan as a foreign student, or those who are expected to do so by the end of September 2022.
  3. (3) Others who are deemed to have qualifications equivalent to (1) or (2).
  4. (4) Those who have passed the level N1 (previous known as "level 1") of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test conducted by the Japan Foundation or the Japan Educational Exchanges and Services, or those who scored 230 points or higher (Japanese) and 30 points or higher (written questions) on the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students conducted by the Japan Student Services Organization.
  5. (5) Those who can acquire after enrollment a "student visa" as stipulated by the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act.
  6. (6) Those capable of paying academic fees from enrollment to graduation.

Selection of Returnee Students

Those students having Japanese citizenship who have been enrolled for at least two consecutive years, including the most recent academic year, in an educational institution based on a formal educational system, meeting any of the following conditions within two years of returning to Japan:

  1. (1) Those who have completed 16 years of formal education abroad, or those who are expected to do so by the end of September 2023.
  2. (2) Others who are deemed to have scholastic aptitude equivalent to university graduates at Kogakkan University.

4. Application Period

August 17 (Thursday) to August 25 (Friday), 2023 (forms must be recieved no later than this date)

August 31 (Thursday), 2023

6. Selection Method and Examination Period

  1. Selection is made based on a scholastic aptitude test, an oral examination, and academic performance at the applicant's previous school.
  2. Depending on the examination performance, students may not be able to enroll even if the number of students does not meet the quota.

This essay-type examination is conducted in order to measure the fundamental scholastic ability for each course of study.

All examinees will be notified of the examination results. Admisson forms will be sent to those who pass the examination.
